Fun Facts: International Name Series

Recently, I shared my nationality confusion series… and now it’s time for something closely related: name origin confusion.

Just like my face might be the face of the world,
my name might just be the name of the world — or at least a part of it 🌍

Here we go again…
Every time I say my name, someone has something to say:

🇳🇱 Dutchies – It has happened that we start a conversation in English, and as soon as I say my name, they switch to Dutch. After my clearly “I don’t understand a word” face, I ask, “Why do you speak Dutch now?” 👉 The response: “You have a Dutch name, so you must be Dutch.” 

🇳🇴 Norwegians – “Why do you have a Norwegian name?”

🇩🇪 Germans – “That’s a very German name!”

🇮🇹 Italians – “Ohhh, that’s an Italian name!”

My name is of Greek origin (though I am not Greek)… and it means the protector of humankind.

So now I wonder…
